Links Africa
is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization based in the Greater Washington DC Area. It was founded to support girls from
underprivileged families in Africa access quality education. The objective is to help the girls help themselves and their families.
One of the UN Millenium Development
Goals is universal primary education by 2015. To achieve this goal, governments in developing nations declared free primary education. Millions of poor
children who were out of school because of financial constraints enrolled. Unfortunately, such children drop out because they cannot afford the escalating cost of post-primary education.
Hence, such poor families face the most difficulty choice of either to place food on the table or send children to school. More often than not girls suffer the blunt of poverty as boys are prefered to attend school while their sisters are forced to take care of their siblings and engange in other form of child labor. Links Africa
strongly believes that the vicious cycle of poverty can be stopped if girls are equally supported to access quality education.
