Mission
Links Africa is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address
challenges currently facing girls from underprivileged families
in Africa. In particular the organization supports girls access quality secondary school education with the aim of bridging the wide gender and knowledge
gap between girls in Africa and their male counterparts.
Links Africa realizes the growing importance of education
in development as the world increasingly
functions as a knowledge-based economy.
Vision
Links Africa envisions a world where education is a Human Right for all regardless of gender, race, religion, or social-economic status.
Motivation
our inspiration to assist needy students especially girls,
access quality education emanates from recognition
of the important role women play in families. We believe
that if girls are left behind, all other economic, social
and political goals would never be fully achieved as a woman
is the nucleus of the family.
Research shows that educating young women yields positive spiral social and
economic benefits for current and future generations. For
example, an educated woman tends to marry later in life
and have fewer children and, because of her education, her
children are more likely to survive; be better nourished
and educated. An educated mother is more effective and efficient
at home and has the ability to secure a better paying job.
She is better able to inform and protect herself and her
family against killer diseases such as HIV/AIDS. She is
capable of standing up and demanding better social services
and good governance from elected leaders.
Studies reveal how poverty
condemns poor girls to untimely death. After they drop out
school, they are either forced to marry elderly men in orderto settle
family debts; or get pregnant out of wed-lock thus producing
poorer families; or join commercial sex industry where they
are likely to contract HIV/AIDS and die at a tender ages.
Without the most needed intervention to alleviate poverty,
the option these poor girls have is just ultimate death.
Links Africa
believes that genuine commitment in fighting poverty should
be rooted in increasing accessibility to quality education so that all students have the opportunity to realize their full potential. Such a strategy would significantly
enhance excellence, innovation and enable people to realize their dreams and aspirations of a cohesive society. To achieve our objectives
and goals, we have started to attack poverty at the grass-root
levels among the underprivileged girls! We believe that
given the opportunity these poor girls deserve to access
quality education, SKY is the LIMIT.
