Who We Are

Jane Wangari Njuru is currently pursuing a PhD in Public Policy and Administration. She holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from American University, Washington, DC and a BA in International Relations from the United States International University, Africa. She is the Executive Director (Volunteer)of Links Africa. Prior to this, she worked as a Project Director at the Regional Development Center for Gender Empowerment RDGCE - Kenya for five years before leaving for the USA to pursue further studies.

Given the demands of today's knowledge based economy, Jane is of the view that post-primary school education is absolutely essential in the fight against poverty. It is in this context that she co-founded Links Africa in order to help less privileged children access secondary education in order to realize their full potential. She feels privileged to work with some of the most talented and hardworking poor children. It is her strong conviction that world peace in the future depends on how we treat the children today.

Wanjiku Gachugi is a graduate of American University, DC with a Masters degree in International Development and Gender Studies. She strongly believes that as a human being, an adult and a woman, it is her responsibility to help children realize their full potential. She says "I am after all who I am because of the many people who helped me reach and still helping me reach my full potential". Like the Xhosa said "I am because we are". She whole heartedly believes in that philosophy and for that reason she is fully committed to Links Africa and its mission.

She is proud to be a co-founder and realizes that its success lies with the dedication and support of volunteers, contributors and organizations working in partnership to encourage the young members of our society. Links Africa together with you, provides the opportunity for children, especially young girls, to go to school and eventually help them accomplish their hopes and dreams.

Elizabeth Njoroge is a third-year student at Nairobi University pursuing a law degree and a social sciences degree at Kenyatta University. As a college student in Kenya, she has strong convictions about the need to help less privileged students’ access secondary school education as a bridge to college. She recognizes the importance of establishing partnership between the private sector and civil society to supplement the government’s efforts and commitment in education sector. She believes that an informed society makes better consumers who are able to make informed choices, obtain meaningful employment and thus have better purchasing power.

Elizabeth is also strongly concerned about the security of our children. She knows that an educated society would demand better security to protect properties, families, enhance economic development, attract investments and create jobs. She is committed to ensuring that every child's rights are protected and upheld so that they can pursue their educational goals to the fullest.
