The program targets girls who perform very well in Kenya Certificate of Primary School Examination (KCPE).While the number of needy students nationwide is overwhelming, we were driven by several factors to start our program with this target group:

1. Primary schools have registered massive students enrolments after the declaration of free and compulsory basic education. The cost of secondary school education remains exorbitant. The biggest challenge will be access of quality secondary school education since most of these children who are taking advatage of the free education program had been cut off in the first place due to financial constraints.
2. This program acts as an incentive for students to work extremely hard. Merit is the fundamental criteria in selecting the beneficiaries.
3. We envage that girls who have performed well in primary school are more likely to excel and realize their full potential and help their families and society in alleviating poverty.
4. Primarily, if the young girls are not intercepted at an early stage in their lives and offered support system to access quality education, they are more likely to engage in commercial sex work and eventually die of HIV/AIDS. With your support we can make a positive and lasting difference!
5. The 4 years of secondary school is a bridge that brings hope to the lives of under privileged students whose dreams are shattered by economic,social and economic obstacles. After secondary school, these student join colleges/universities and the sky becomes the limit in their new horizon.

CRITERIA OF SELECTION

1. Good performance in primary school examination (This is intended to be an incentive for girls to work extremely hard in school in order to deserve help!).
2. Proof of need. We have developed a simple means testing tool through the participation of the local leaders, the school administrators and the parents. This will help us determine who the needy students are and ensure that help goes to those who need it most.
3. Essay writing competition that will entail a couple of topics including writing about what they would like to be when they grew up (proposed).
